I’m from Nova Scotia, Canada. I started painting Nova Scotian landscapes using muted tones and vague forms to suggest the fog and overcast sky, then transferred this to more everyday scenes: usually people on the street, driving, walking their dogs. Figures usually remain a loose sketch, half-rendered, or partially painted over, to show motion, odd lighting effects, and so that nothing is too obvious. Nothing is distorted, but remains obscure and in flux. I often paint over older paintings or build up partially transparent layers so that there is more colour variation, but the effect is still soft and quiet.
